Framingham State senior and newly elected president of the Black Student Union (BSU), Kenzler Joseph is seeking to expand the impact of the group beyond the boundaries of campus into the community.

BSU is a student group that promotes diversity and celebrates Black culture. Joseph says he’s looking for opportunities for the group to volunteer at food pantries and homeless shelters.

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t get better than service, helping people and seeing the impact of what you are doing,” says Joseph, a Business Administration major. “I want to build greater connections in the community.”

Joseph spent two years as the group’s secretary, volunteering his business skills and taking part

in events. When the former president of BSU graduated, Joseph decided to step up to the plate and fill the void.

In addition to his work with BSU, Joseph is a member of the Advisory Council for the Advancement of Representation in Education, which was formed by Governor Maura Healey in advance of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in June that struck down affirmative action in college admissions.

The Advisory Council works with the administration to ensure that Massachusetts will always be “open, welcoming and inclusive of students of color and other students typically underrepresented in higher education.”
