Anne (McGurty) Slater ’54
Anne (McGurty) Slater, a member of the Class of 1954, passed in July 2024. Born in 1932 in Lowell, Massachusetts, Anne was the daughter of a French Canadian from Vermont and a first-generation Irish American from Woburn.She attended Framingham State Teachers College and worked summers on the New Hampshire coast. Anne liked to share stories about waiting on baseball legends like Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle—and other not-so-famous baseball players. After graduation, she moved across the country to begin her teaching career in Marblemount, Washington, where her father and brother were working to build the Gorge Dam on the Skagit River. She married Charles Slater in 1958, and they raised three children.Anne is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Anne wanted to give back to Framingham State for the experience that she cherished all of her life. Her donation to the University will assist five undergraduate students, continuing her lifelong commitment to education and community.
