Jeremy McDonald
RAM IN FOCUS
When Jeremy McDonald was first recruited to play hockey at Framingham State, he had never even heard of the University. A native of Lockport, NY, he was eager to continue his playing career and quickly took interest when he learned that Framingham State was interested in him. After visiting campus, he was sold—applying just a few days later.
The chance connection turned out to be a fortuitous one for McDonald and for Framingham State. Prior to graduating last May, McDonald became a leader on the hockey team, while also racking up academic and community service honors. He also provided a critical student perspective to campus leaders as the elected Student Trustee his senior year.
“I really enjoyed getting involved with student government and with the administration at FSU,” says McDonald. “It’s definitely helped shape what I want to do in the future.”
McDonald will be attending the University at Buffalo School of Law this fall. He is interested in labor and employment law, and brings with him a strong commitment to social justice and advocacy.
“I’m not drawn to corporate law,” says McDonald, who majored in Political Science with a concentration in Pre-Law. “I’m more interested in defending the little guy against the system.”
While at Framingham State, he had the chance to intern for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and for the office of U.S. Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA). Both of those experiences helped solidify his desire to get into law.
Among his many accomplishments at Framingham State was serving as the Student Marshal for the College of Education and Social & Behavioral Sciences, which is a position that recognizes academic excellence, and earning the Paul T. Murphy University and Community Service Award.
During his senior year at FSU, he organized a textbook drive that enabled students to donate their used textbooks so that future students with financial hardships could access them for free.
“I’m proud of how successful the drive has been,” says McDonald. “We’ve filled nearly a shelf in the library with donated textbooks.”
Playing on the hockey team was among the highlights of his college experience.
“I met some really great people who I’ll be friends with for life,” McDonald says. “Playing the games is great, but the lasting memories are really made off the ice.”
