Corporate Partnership Internship at Worcester Red Sox

Evelyn Campbell has been involved in just about every aspect of student life at Framingham State University. She is an honors student and president of the Student Government Association, an orientation leader, and a peer tutor.
But it’s her senior-year internship in the Corporate Partnership Office of the Worcester Red Sox (WooSox) that stands out to Campbell as being critical to her post-graduation plans.
“I think an internship is the most important thing any student can do in college,” says Campbell. “As a Communications major, I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to go in. The internship with the WooSox has provided me with a much different perspective from the work I do at Framingham State and a lot more professional experience.”
Campbell learned about the internship through FSU’s Center for Student Experience and Career Development. The WooSox are the AAA Minor League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Through the internship, Campbell has participated in different aspects of the communications operation, from meeting with corporate partners at the park to marketing the club to fans.
“What I’ve learned is I really have a passion for the marketing side of things,” says Campbell. “I feel like that is where I can get more creative. I get to sit in on regionalization meetings where they discuss promoting the team regionally to different areas. I love those meetings. I always have so many ideas, and I bring a different perspective being a bit younger.”
Campbell, who is the first in her family to attend college, now feels that she has a better idea of what she wants to do for a career, as well as professional contacts she can tap after graduation.
“I think one of the many barriers that I and other first-gen students face in college is the lack of familiarity with professional environments and different career paths,” says Campbell. “My family doesn’t have the same professional networks or experience to guide me through things like workplace culture, professional communication or even how to navigate an internship search. Luckily, I have been able to lean on my support system here at Framingham State to help me grow and feel prepared for taking on this role.”
